The T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S II packs more of everything

The T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S II packs more of everything, it seems. It has a larger display, faster radio, and faster processor than the AT&T version, and outclasses the Sprint version when it comes to raw power (i.e., the ability to handle games).

It’s also heavier than the others, and feels much better in the hand. It’s noticeably denser, and the materials are slightly higher in quality. Rather than creaky plastics, the frame and components that make up the Galaxy S II's skin are solid and tightly assembled. It's still large, but will slip into pockets just fine thanks to its slim profile. It doesn't look much different than the AT&T and Sprint variants, but we can say the same thing of pretty much every Galaxy S device released in the last 12 months. They are all spartan, buy oppo phone obsidian slabs and the T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S II doesn't do anything to break that mold.

In terms of the controls of the device, they’re identical to other versions. The screen takes up most of the front face of the phone and there are four touch keys along the bottom for the basic Android controls. I didn't have any trouble with these keys.

HTC One SV for Cricket Wireless

The HTC One SV follows the design path set by the One X, One S, One V, and One XV. It has a simple outward appearance, but there are subtle cues that make it an HTC device through and through. It is an attractive slab that makes good use of minimalist design.

The entire front panel is black glass. The rest is a bright orangish red color that’s hard to miss. The battery cover is made of plastic, but there's a colored metal band that encircles the outer rim of the SV. The metal band is rigid and strong. There's a slight difference in the finishes between the metallic band and the plastic battery cover that makes the two surfaces almost look like a different shade of orangish red.

The display hides well in the black glass panel. cheapest meizu I am pleased that the bezel is somewhat thin, and the display isn't swimming in a large black frame. There are three capacitive buttons below the screen for interacting with the Android operating system.

Strike has a small screen on the front in addition to the navigation cluster and numeric keypad

If you haven't heard of Sonim, maker of the XP Strike, don't be worried. It is based in California and specializes in only rugged handsets. The Strike is one of the first to be sold in the U.S. Most of Sonim's devices are sold overseas. There is nothing subtle about the Sonim Strike. It is about as rugged as a device can get. It’s thick, heavy, brutally tough, and clearly not meant for use by sissies.

As far as rugged devices go, I like the overall design of the Strike. I don't think anyone would blink twice were it to be sold alongside DeWalt drills or Rigid sawzalls at Home Depot. It has that "construction site" look that is sure to appeal to its target user: people who work outside where things get dropped, kicked, stepped on, and flung.

The colors are a mix of black and yellow. The yellow makes the Strike easy to see pretty much anywhere. I found it to be nearly reflective when out under the sun (it's not actually reflective, though). The yellow portions are made from an extremely hard plastic. The black parts are hardened rubber and serve as a cushioning agent for the device, protecting it from your butter fingers. The Strike is all angles, lines, and other shapes. It is not smooth or refined.

Samsung Galaxy S III is a bit conservative and simplistic

I have to give Samsung some credit for the colors. Blue may not be for everyone, but I am sick to death of black smartphones. The "pebble blue" is an attractive hue that impresses when outside under sunlight. The white is also nice. I wish the white had more of a matte finish than glossy, but the silver accents around the outer edge look great.

I think the overall shape and design of the GS3 is a bit conservative and simplistic, but I understand the angle Samsung is shooting for with its "inspired by nature" concept. Samsung needs the GS3 to appeal to as many potential customers as possible, so truly odd, unique designs are out. The edges are absolutely smooth; there isn't a hard angle or sharp edge anywhere on the GS3. Samsung says it was inspired by the shape and feel of a river stone. It feels like you're holding silk. Another way to say it: the GS3 is really slippery. It's thin and slippery enough that it will glide into any pocket in which you care to store the device.

LG Optimus G for Sprint

LG brings its heavy artillery to the smartphone wars for the first time with the Optimus G. This flagship Android smartphone boasts a quad-core processor, 13-megapixel camera, and of course LTE 4G for Sprint. Here is Phone Scoop's full review.

The Sprint version of the LG Optimus G is different enough from AT&T version that Phone Scoop decided each device warranted its own review. The Sprint G is slightly taller and narrower than the AT&T G (by just 2mm and 3mm, respectively), but it's noticeable if you hold the two phones side-by-side.

The Sprint version of the G more closely mirrors that of the international variant of the G. This left Sprint with little wiggle room when it came to making the device more its own. It's a black slab with glass on the front and a glass-like material on the back. It's glossy, highly reflective, but could be hard to recognize from more than a couple feet away since so many smartphones are black-on-black slabs.

Samsung Propel also feels more natural in your hand

Propel also feels more natural in your hand for use with both applications and conversations, more like a BlackBerry than the usual cellphone.

Varying control keys, jacks and slots are arrayed around the phone's perimeter; on the left side are the volume toggle and the microSD slot, on the right is Samsung's proprietary power/headphone jack – there is no separate 3.5mm or 2.5mm headphone jack – and an application shortcut key. The volume and shortcut keys stick out just enough to find by feel but not far enough to catch on the inside of a pocket.

Pushing this application shortcut key displays a horizontal row of six icons – phone, messaging, Web, music, game and "end all," which closes any and all background apps, such as music.meizu mx5 phone  There's a direct access camera key on the bottom row of the keyboard.

HTC Droid Incredible is one of the sharpest-looking handsets

It is large, but lightweight. It is soft, yet solid. The battery cover has a soft-touch finish, and it feels really nice in the hand. I like that its edges are all rounded in shape, rather than angular like the Droid's. It slips into a pocket much easier than the Droid, and is far more comfortable to leave there for any amount of time. I find it to be just the right weight. It's not so heavy as to be a brick in your hands, but not so insubstantial as to make you think it was cheaply made.

The Incredible is obsidian and reminds me of the famed monolith from "2001: A Space Odyssey" more than any other phone I've encountered. The grill covering the earpiece speaker at the tippy top of the phone is the only color, a thin strip of red. The display is huge, but not so awkward as the HTC HD2's dinner plate dimensions. There are four capacitive buttons along the bottom of the screen, just as with the Droid Eris and Moto Droid. meizu mx5 Finally, at the bottom, is an optical mouse / button. The optical mouse works well as a button and a mouse. I found it to be responsive, though I used it more when editing text than for any real on-screen navigation.

Sony Ericsson Z750 desperately needs to lose a few millimeters around the waist

The numeric keypad is simply one of the best we've seen from Sony Ericsson. The buttons are large, well spaced, and feel great to use. Travel and feedback is nearly perfect. The "nub" on the five key was nice and easy to find, which helped aide usability when not looking at the keypad. All the way at the bottom of the keypad, below the # key, was a very small power button to turn the phone on and off. A quick press turns it on, a longer press turns the Z750a off. I like that this button is hidden inside the device, meaning the phone won't accidentally be turned on/off when stored in a bag.

The left side of the phone is where you'll find a dedicated music application key and the volume toggle. Unlike the numeric keypad, these are among the worst buttons we've encountered on the side of a phone. The music app button is a half-circle that is embedded into the side of the phone. It offered the bare minimum of feedback and was not easy to find. The volume toggle was easier to find, but offered even less feedback. We're talking the button barely moves, and there's absolutely no "click" to let you know the button has actually been pushed. meizu mx5 price

The hatch for the M2 memory slot is the only thing found on the right side of the phone. It was easy enough to find and open. The battery hatch on the back of the Z750a comes off with the use of a fingernail.

Amazon is finally ready to unleash its first phone, the Fire

Amazon is finally ready to unleash its first phone, the Fire. An exclusive to AT&T, this unique phone sports a spiffy interface totally new to the phone world, and a few fancy hardware and software features. Read on for our hands-on first impressions.

The Fire phone sounds great on paper. It has great hardware specs, an innovative software platform built on Android and the successful Kindle Fire tablets, and some unique hardware and software that seems like magic. But is it something you should buy? We'll have to reserve proper judgement until we have quality time with a review unit. But in the meantime, we have some first impressions from using this fascinating device hands-on.

The face-tracking does require a lot of tilting the phone, which is a great demo of the excellent viewing angles of the display, which is great in every other metric as well. Of course with this phone, a display with poor viewing angles would be a catastrophe, but still, the display has some of the best viewing angles I've ever seen on an LCD panel. (I'm shocked they didn't go with OLED, but however they managed to do it with an LCD, it's gorgeous.)

Samsung Galaxy Mega for AT&T

The Samsung Galaxy Mega is an absurdly large "phone." It takes the idea of the phablet -- or phone/tablet hybrid -- much closer to the tablet end of the spectrum. If you want the biggest screen possible on a device that's still portable, the Mega may be up your alley.

People were aghast when Samsung announced the Galaxy Note in 2011 with its 5.2-inch screen. "Crazy," "Huge," "Ridiculous," some called it. The Galaxy Mega, as the name implies, dwarfs the Note with its mega proportions. It has a 6.3-inch screen and a massive 6.6 x 3.46-inch footprint. It's not that much smaller than some tablets.

The family resemblance between the Note and the Mega is clear. Held side-by-side, they are almost indistinguishable, aside from the difference in size. The Mega has the same chrome-colored rim and speaker grill, the same coloring, and nearly identical button shape and placement as the Note. It's a decent-looking device, though it of course uses the same cheap-feeling plastics common to Samsung smartphones. It comes across as classy and elegant sort of in the way Shaquille O'Neal does when wearing a suit rather than his basketball uniform.

Ascend Mate 2 from Huawei represents an interesting choice

The Ascend Mate 2 is a big, big phone. It's about the same size as the Samsung Galaxy Mega, which is probably also its closest competition in terms of specs and price. With a six-inch screen, the Mate 2 borders on tablet-esque dimensions. It is large, heavy, and often requires two hands.

Visually, the Mate 2 is a fairly non-descript phone; a black slab with little personality. The front and back surfaces are solid black. Only a band around the edge, which is dark chrome, breaks up what would otherwise be a solid chunk of inky blackness. The Mate 2 is bereft of design flourishes and is conservative almost to a fault. Since it has almost no individuality, it will fit in just about anywhere. Only individuals stand out, and the Mate 2 is part of the crowd.

The materials are acceptable, but certainly not high quality. The glass on the front feels good under the thumb, as do the slippery side edges. I'm not the biggest fan of the rear cover, which has a microscopic pattern to it. Your skin can't really feel it, but if you slide a fingernail across it you'll feel the texture. It has a dull look to it thanks to the matte finish.

Meizu MX3 is very simplistic as far as the design goes

Meizu is relatively unknown to those of us in North America. It's a Chinese phone maker that hopes to make it big in the U.S. market in the coming years. Its first foray into the U.S. water will be with the MX3, an Android smartphone that's been available in China since last year, but is being shown off at CES for the first time. Here are our initial impressions.

The MX3 is very simplistic as far as the design goes. It has a plain plastic shell forming the back and a glass front forming the display. There are hardly any design elements, it is a slab with few frills. The white plastic back meets the black front in a clean, straight seam. The MX3 is thin and light - almost too light. It feels as though there's hardly anything inside the phone. The plastic is a bit more cheap feeling than I'd like it to be, but Meizu assured me the phone is far from its final, manufactured form. The construction is certainly tight.

The slim form is quite easy to hold. The edges are tapered nicely and the MX3 will slip into most any pocket. The are no physical buttons on the front, the glass is clean and free of buttons. There are capacitive controls below the display. The volume toggle is along the left edge of the device. It stands out nicely and had excellent travel and feedback. The screen lock button has a similar feel, and is positioned along the top of the phone. The stereo headphone jack is next to it. There are no buttons along the right, and the microUSB port is on the bottom.

LG Lucid 3 for Verizon Wireless

The Lucid 3 from LG is a mid-range smartphone that offers some of the features found on flagship devices but skips some of the more fanciful extras. With downgraded specs, it also enjoys a lower price point. For those who want a simpler device that lacks thrills - but lets you keep up with your bill - the Lucid 3 is worth a gander.

Like the Lucid 2 before it, the Lucid 3 doesn't aspire to be much. It's a low-cost Android smartphone that packs the basic toolset included with most such devices. LG tossed in a few of its proprietary apps for good measure.

The Lucid 3 isn't a bad looking phone. LG kept the design rather simple so it won't be confused with its high-end phones, such as the G2. The front is black, but the plastic covering the back has a midnight blue hue, and the outer edge is defined by a gray band. The camera lens is rimmed in chrome, and the Home button on the front stands out thanks to its design. I'd say the Lucid 3 is a second-hand suit compared to the G2's fresh tuxedo. It keeps things classy, but in a casual sort of way.

The original Android mobile phone Google Nexus 6

The Nexus 6 is a larger version of the Moto X, but with the Droid Turbo's guts. It's a powerful and appealing combination. The N6 has a glass front, aluminum frame around the sides, and polycarbonate on the back. It doesn't have the Moto X's customizable rear panels, but it does have the same shape, contours, and structure. The phone comes in either white or indigo blue. I think both are rather attractive.

Thanks to its 6-inch screen, the N6 is a massive device. It's taller, wider, and thicker than the iPhone 6 Plus, but let me tell you, it fits in your pocket much more comfortably. The N6 may measure 0.4 inches at its thickest point, but the device is tapered aggressively. It’s much thinner along the edges than the iPhone 6 Plus, which maintains the same thickness across the entire footprint of the phone. I was much more apt to notice the IPhone 6 Plus in my pocket than the Nexus 6, despite latter's larger size and weight. The N6's shape also makes it more comfortable to hold and use. Well, at least as comfortable as a phone that measures 6.27 inches tall and 3.27 inches wide can be.

Meizu MX4 smartphone experience

Handling the phone is a joy. The screen size is really good comparing to body ratio, the curves the the alloy chassis give it a really expensive feel.
The internals are more than adequate, actually the device acts and reacts as the flag ship it is no lags with my time of usage .
Flyme OS is the sin child of ios and Android, you must use it to know how far Chinese manufactures/developers came. From gestures to unlock the screen to easy to use menus, sometimes simple is better.
Screen very vibrant though not as good as AMOLEDs you find in samsungs and Motos but its still a joy to look at .
Sound from the internal speaker is really loud, it also sounds good bt not as good as htc boom sound. I would say its better than samsungs and iphones but not as good as HTC. While headphones sound, could easily replace your ipod with loudness and quality

Battery runs a day with have usage no problems and even has different modes, depending on how demanding you are.
