Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is one of the more interesting smartphones

The Galaxy S6 Edge is probably the most ambitious smartphone ever from Samsung. Sure the Galaxy Note kicked off phablets in 2010, and the Note Edge was the first to have a functional, curved screen, but the S6 Edge is the first to bring together meizu mx5 review quality materials, top-notch construction, and specs galore in a phone fit for regular people.

While the S6 Edge and its sibling, the S6, are clearly cut from the same cloth as previous generations of Galaxy S smartphones, they take a dramatic new step forward thanks to the metal and glass design. The Edge trades the cheap-feeling plastic of its predecessors for gorgeous glass that hugs an aluminum frame. The front and back panels are both made from Gorilla Glass 4, but the front has been curved through a process Samsung calls 3D thermal-forming. Essentially, Samsung heated the glass to over 800 degrees and wrapped the glass around a rod to achieve the curved shape. I think it looks great.

The glass panels are fitted tightly to the metal band that forms the outer edges of the phone. The band is thin along the sides to accommodate the curved glass, and thickens at the top and bottom to provide strength and rigidity. Samsung polished the edges of the metallic band to give them some extra sparkle. Matching accents can be found on the home button, earpiece grill, and camera module. The quality is top-notch. Samsung clearly took great care in designing and assembling the S6 Edge. It absolutely goes toe-to-toe with Apple’s iPhone and HTC’s One in terms of fit and finish.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport for Sprint

The GS5 Sport from Sprint is surprisingly different from the GS5 Active from AT&T. It loses the Active's thicker, sturdier corners. The Active's outer edge is framed in hardened rubber. In contrast, the Sport's is simply a chunkier plastic shell that feels more solid than the standard GS5 model, but not as robust as the Active's. You could say the GS5 Sport sits between the GS5 and GS5 Active in terms of toughness, though it is much closer to the standard GS5 than the Active. That's a bit of a disappointment.

Where the GS5 has a chrome-colored band circling the outer edge, the Sport has a matte-finished polycarbonate frame. The phone has lots of textures and lines running all over the place. I find it somewhat disjointed-looking. The colored plastics are a nice change from black, but any device that has "Sport" branding needs to be either super sleek or much more rugged. Unlike the Active, I'd be afraid to drop the Sport. I certainly wouldn't kick it, throw it, or smack it with a hockey stick. These are things you can do with the Active. Skip the roughhousing with the Sport.

The Sport is a big phone. People with small hands may find it too big. The thick sides mean it doesn't rest comfortably in your hand, it doesn't cheap meizu mx5 nestle into your palm. You can feel just how wide the phone is. On the positive side, it feels robust. It should fit into most pockets without too much trouble, but the rim protecting the display means the phone is easy to feel against your leg as you move about.

Microsoft Lumia 735 for Verizon Wireless

Lumia smartphones all share a similar design aesthetic. The branches of the family tree are rather short. While they are easy to differentiate from competitors' handsets thanks to their plain-yet-compelling shapes, Lumias are also beginning to blend into one another. To my eyes, the Lumia 735 is a shrunken Lumia 920 (which, by the way, is from 2012).

The 735 is a dark gray slab with flat top and bottom edges, rounded side edges, and a back surface that tapers ever-so-gently from the center toward the sides. It is formed by a polycarbonate shell with a matte finish. Sadly, this matte finish displays fingerprint oils, which mar the look a bit. I like the shape of the phone, but -- as with nearly all Lumias -- I wish it were a bit thinner. It's not setting any records at 10.2mm thick.

There's no denying the phone has a clean look to it, but it might be nice if it were available in colors other than dark gray. Lumia handsets often come in at least two or three shades, but not so with the Lumia 735. You're stuck with neutral gray.

The 735 is really nice to hold and use. The 4.7-inch screen means Microsoft was able to keep the overall size of the phone in a comfortable zone. It fits well in the hand and the curved sides really help when meizu m2 note you grip the phone tightly. The weight of the phone is pleasingly light; in fact, it's almost too light. The 735 is compact enough that shoving it into your pockets won't be troublesome.

Sprint today unwrapped a new option for customers looking to save money on family plans. The Best Buy One Family plan costs $100 per month and includes unlimited data, voice minutes, and messaging for two oppo smartphone smartphones. Additional lines cost $40 each. Axon Phone Teased for July Release

An unnamed company is preparing to announce the "Axon Phone" July 14. A teaser web site provides some preliminary information about the handset, which runs Android. For example, the Axon Phone has a dual-lens camera that the company says assists with focus and allows owners to refocus images after they're taken. The phone can also record video at up to 4K resolution. Axon claims the phone has high-fidelity sound playback and high-quality audio recording thanks to two microphones and noise suppression techniques. Last, the Axon phone has a fast processor, 4 GB of memory, and a large battery. oppo mobile phone The phone will be sold in blue, gold, or silver. Axon said more details will be revealed next month; however, PCMag was able to dig up some details that shed new light on the Axon Phone. PCMag claims Axon is a "marketing scheme" cooked up by ZTE. ZTE branding and code is clearly seen in the Axon web site. Further, Axon's headquarters shares the same address with ZTE's U.S. headquarters. ZTE mostly sells low-cost handsets via prepaid carriers in the U.S., but has higher ambitions. The Axon Phone may be an attempt by the company to break into the U.S. market with different branding. ZTE hasn't commented on PCMag's assertions.

Twitter to Make It Easier to Read About Places and Things

Twitter is testing new ways to surface content about locations and products that might interest users. First, it is experimenting with a feature called Place and Product pages. Twitter says these pages will feature images and video about places or products, including descriptions, web links, and purchasing options. The social network said it will display these details above tweets pertaining to that particular place or product. In addition to Product and Place pages, Twitter is testing other ways for users to connect with brands.meizu m1 note review It is letting a select bunch of "influencers" create collections of products and places they like and then share those collections with the broader public. The collections, mostly from celebrities, retailers, TV channels, and news organizations, can be accessed from the Twitter profile of whatever entity created the collection. Twitter is starting with a limited number of place and product pages and celebrity collections and will expand over time based on their success. Twitter said these changes will reach Twitter.com and the Android and iOS apps (via update) soon.

Twitter's 'Project Lightning' to Simplify Following Stories

Twitter is working on a new way to view tweets called Project Lightning. The company revealed its plans to Buzzfeed, which says the product is still a few months from being released. With Project Lightning, Twitter users will be able to follow events or breaking news stories. Twitter will curate event-based tweets and compile them into a single feed. The idea is to make it easier to pay attention to a particular story, rather than individual people. "It's around anything that's interesting," explained Twitter's Kevin Weil. "It could be current events. It could be breaking news. It could be awards shows or sports. But also cultural events and moments — things around your location and where you are.OPPO Find 5 There's amazing content, for example, posted to Throwback Thursday every single Thursday. But it's hard to discover it; you have to work as a user to go and find the best stuff, but [we] can do it easily and can package it richly." The feature will be accessible from mobile devices as well as the web, and the feeds can be embedded into other web sites and shared across devices. The feeds will include images and video for a richer experience, and the tweets will be curated by real people and not algorithms. Twitter did not say exactly when the feature will be rolled out. Twitter hopes Project Lightning will help entice more people to spend time engaging with the social network.

Microsoft Releases New Technical Preview of Windows 10

Microsoft today made available a new build of its Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview. Asus On the Fence About HTC Acquisition

Nokia Lumia 521 is clearly the bottom rung in Nokia's smartphone

Nokia's modern design language is unmistakable. The bulk of the company's Lumia-branded smartphones use brightly colored polycarbonate to stand out from the me-too, black-on-black slabs that make up the bulk of the smartphone market. The Lumia 521 continues this trend.

Despite Nokia's take on materials and color, the Lumia 521 is clearly the bottom rung in Nokia's smartphone ladder. Its look is blunt compared to the refined look of higher-end devices, such as the Lumia 925. It looks like the entry-level smartphone that it is, but with slightly more panache than what we might see on a similar Android phone thanks to the white, wrap-around shell that forms the bulk of the 521's shape. In fact, the shell forms the entire back and side surfaces; the 521's guts sit within the shell. The contrasting flat black glass front gives the 521 a well-defined shape and appearance.

The polycarbonate shell feels strong. The smooth contour that gently curves from one end to the other is comfortable against your skin. Unlike some of Nokia's other white Lumia smartphones, the 521's white shell has a matte finish. I much prefer the look and feel of the this finish. meizu m2 note The compact nature of the size and the curved sides let the 521 fit snugly in your palm. The build quality of the device is good overall, and it will slip easily into pockets.

Microsoft Beefs Up Outlook Email App Security

Microsoft today improved login security for its Android and iOS Outlook email applications. Moving forward, Outlook will use something called Active Directory Authentication Library (ADAL)-based authentication for Exchange Online mailboxes in Office 365. Microsoft says this replaces cheap meizu mx3 the basic authentication method previously used. The change also brings OAuth support to Office 365 accounts and alters the technical handshake Microsoft's apps use to verify account holders as they move between them. Though the improved security is mostly meant to help companies better manage their employee email and productivity access, everyone who uses Office 365 will have a more secure login. Microsoft said all Office 365 users will be prompted to re-enter their login credentials over the next week. This will trigger the new ADAL sign in and convert accounts from basic authentication to OAuth. The Outlook apps themselves do not need to be updated.

LG Optimus G Pro is a large, large device

There's no getting around the fact that the LG Optimus G Pro is a large, large device. It is also, to my eyes, a bit plain looking. The design is fairly bland. It's as if LG decided that size alone would sell the G Pro. It's a black slab, but leaves the fancy lines and complicated surfaces to other phones. It may be big, but it doesn't look all that special.

The entire front surface is black. The back is black, too, but has a pattern that's situated below the clear, glossy surface. The effect is that when held in the light, the pattern will jump to life a bit and break up what would otherwise be a blackboard-sized rear cover. The back and front surfaces are both incredibly prone to collecting finger oils and nasty grime. It takes serious effort to keep the G Pro looking clean. Some may find its constant slime coating a bit gross. I know I did. There's a metallic-looking band that wraps around the edges of the G Pro, breaking up the black a bit. It's hardly noticeable, though.

The volume toggle is on the left edge of the G Pro. It's too flush with the surface and offers minimal travel and feedback.buy oppo find5 I want to be able to adjust the volume quickly, and this button doesn't allow for that. There's also a user-definable action button, (the default is LG's QuickMemo feature,) which is positioned above the volume toggle. It suffers from the same usability problems as the volume toggle. Thankfully the screen lock button, which is found on the right edge, is a bit better.

LG Lucid for Verizon Wireless

LG has a trio of phones that are eerily similar: the Lucid for Verizon Wireless, the Connect 4G for MetroPCS, and the Viper for Sprint.meizu m1 note review The share similar size, shape and specs, though the outward appearance in unique to each.

The Lucid is a simple-looking phone. It doesn't have the biggest, smallest, thinnest, sharpest, or fastest of anything. It falls into the crowded category of devices that badly needs something to make it stand apart -- but fails to do so. It's blocky looking, covered in glossy black plastic, and, well, somewhat boring to behold.

The Lucid feels slippery, thanks to the glossy plastics. While the front face is a rectangular block, the Lucid has gently rounded curves to the side and back surfaces. The result is that the back surface is much smaller than the front, and it sits deeply in your palm. You can grip it tightly without suffering the feel of sharp edges. The Lucid is not thin by any stretch, but it isn't egregiously thick, either. It's a weighty phone, and it feels dense and solid.cheap oppo r5 It'll slip into pockets easily thanks to the slippery surfaces, but if your pockets are loose, you'll know the Lucid is there thanks to its heft.

Samsung Sidekick 4G a solid feel in the hand and should help prevent

Speaking of which, the swivel S4 screen you know and love is totally gone. Instead, Samsung opted for a more traditional hinged design. When held sideways, the Sidekick 4G's display will pop open with but a nudge from your thumbs.buy oppo n3 The hinge feels strong, and the display is at a comfortable viewing angle. TheSidekick 4G4 has some ridged, grippy patches on the back, which fall directly under your fingers when holding the S4 in landscape mode. These give the Sidekick 4G a solid feel in the hand and should help prevent the Sidekick 4G from slipping out of your grasp.

The keyboard calls upon the ghosts of Sidekick keyboards past for its offset layout and key design. It has five rows -- including an entire row for numbers -- and the offset keys mimic the look and feel of a real, PC-style QWERTY keyboard. They keys, while small, have great definition and a good shape. Typing feels natural, and I found my thumbs flying across the keyboard after a few moments. It has a dedicated "@" key and the comma and period get their own buttons, but there aren't other shortcuts, such as "www" or ".com". There's also a dedicated button for voice actions and a dedicated emoticon key. When pressed, it shows 10 emoticons at a time, which can be inserted by pressing the emoticon on the screen, or the corresponding number key.

The volume toggle is on the left side of the phone. It's easy to find and use, and has good travel and feedback. The 3.5mm headset jack is above it, in my least favorite spot, right in the corner of the Sidekick 4G.meizu cell phone The power/lock button is also on the left side, near the bottom. It's a somewhat unusual spot. Most devices put the power/lock key on the top. With the Sidekick 4G, however, you'll find it is perfectly placed for use when the device is open in landscape mode. It falls right under your thumb.

Sharp FX is a cross between the Sharp-made SideKicks

The FX is a cross between the Sharp-made SideKicks and the Motorola-made SideKick Slide. It loses the trick, swing open screen that the SideKicks had, and instead uses a slider form to reveal the QWERTY keyboard underneath. Anyone who's ever held any sort of SideKick will immediately see the family resemblance. Too bad that includes the SideKick's faults, too.

Take the phone's size, for example. The length and width are fine, but the FX's depth makes it a bulky handset. It's also heavy. The sides and back are covered with a soft-touch paint job, which helps it feel smooth in your hand, but that doesn't take away from the girth. Fit and finish were also less fine than I'd like. The slider was very loose, and I noticed a lot of play in the top half of the phone. Loose parts don't inspire much confidence.

There are three physical buttons on the front of the FX, all placed below the display. There are Send, Back/Menu, and End/Power keys.oppo cell phone All three have good travel and feedback, and are offset from the surrounding surface so that it is easy enough to find them.

Casio Brigade meets the military specifications 810F standard for water

The Casio Brigade meets the military specifications 810F standard for water, shock and dust resistance; immersion; vibration; and low and high temperature storage. It can even withstand salt fog, a problem I hope to never encounter, but if you find yourself in a salty, foggy environment, there are very few phones on the market that can handle these problems, and only one with a full QWERTY keyboard.

The Brigade looks every bit the part. Besides the rubberized seals and larger buttons that you’d expect from a rugged device, the Casio G’zOne family tends toward flourishes like rivets and metal guard posts.cheap meizu m1 I half-expected to open the phone and find steel plate, but Verizon Wireless saved this for the interface theme, not the exterior.

The Casio Brigade won’t fit in your pocket, unless you wear cargo pants and a flak jacket. It’s about twice as thick as your standard, svelte tablet phone, and the hinge protrudes from the top and bottom of the device. But it opens with a solid clack, like popping the hood on a Jeep.

Samsung Highnote by its 2-inch 176 x 220 pixel LCD screen

While this is an interesting arrangement, it offers no improvements to the traditional Send and End key placement. Worse, "Talk," "Back" and "End" are etched in black into the arched keys and are difficult to read. Since "Talk" and "End" aren't backlit in traditional green and red, you lose the quick visual cue and instead pause an extra annoying nano second to ensure you're hitting the right key.

Inside the control ring is a textured floating disk. Press it directionally (left, right, up, down) as you would any navigation array and the on-screen cursor or highlight moves accordingly. But you can also spin the disk to move the cursor as well, sort of a physical version of iPod's click wheel.buy meizu mx3 In the middle of the disk is a "Menu/OK" select button.

Like the navigation ring controls, the spin wheel is nice, but it doesn't improve on the usual left-right-up-down control. In fact, it gets in the way. As you tap the disk left-right-up-down, your touch may actually move the cursor first causing you to accidentally click on the wrong item.

On the right spine of the phone is the micro USB jack, a "sound" button – tap it and the ringer volume setting is displayed, hold it down to activate the music player – and the camera activation button/shutter release.

Sony Ericsson S710a new high-end swivel camera phone for Cingular

The S710a actually has 2 keypad areas, one for the navigation controls which are on the phone's face, and a second for the numeric keypad and power key which is under the spinning face. The navigation keys on the face allow you to do pretty much everything - including make phone calls - without spinning the phone open. When the phone is open, the numeric keypad is close to the navigation keys, so you don't have to move your hand too much to use all the keys.

All of the keys are quite flush with the surface of the phone. The navigation keys are completely flush, while the numeric keys are slightly below the keypad surface, leaving a slight indent where each key is. The D-Pad select key is the only key other than the volume up down keys on the side of the phone that can be felt for without looking.buy meizu mx3 However the D-Pad select has problems of its own. On first glance it appears to be a joystick, as is common on most Sony Ericsson phones. However the direction keys are the ring around the joystick, which serves solely as a select key.

Since not all the keys are hidden when the phone is closed, Sony Ericsson devised a very useful keylock. Instead of a key combination, the keylock is a dedicated slide switch on the side of the phone.

The T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S II packs more of everything

The T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S II packs more of everything, it seems. It has a larger display, faster radio, and faster processor than the AT&T version, and outclasses the Sprint version when it comes to raw power (i.e., the ability to handle games).

It’s also heavier than the others, and feels much better in the hand. It’s noticeably denser, and the materials are slightly higher in quality. Rather than creaky plastics, the frame and components that make up the Galaxy S II's skin are solid and tightly assembled. It's still large, but will slip into pockets just fine thanks to its slim profile. It doesn't look much different than the AT&T and Sprint variants, but we can say the same thing of pretty much every Galaxy S device released in the last 12 months. They are all spartan, buy oppo phone obsidian slabs and the T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S II doesn't do anything to break that mold.

In terms of the controls of the device, they’re identical to other versions. The screen takes up most of the front face of the phone and there are four touch keys along the bottom for the basic Android controls. I didn't have any trouble with these keys.

HTC One SV for Cricket Wireless

The HTC One SV follows the design path set by the One X, One S, One V, and One XV. It has a simple outward appearance, but there are subtle cues that make it an HTC device through and through. It is an attractive slab that makes good use of minimalist design.

The entire front panel is black glass. The rest is a bright orangish red color that’s hard to miss. The battery cover is made of plastic, but there's a colored metal band that encircles the outer rim of the SV. The metal band is rigid and strong. There's a slight difference in the finishes between the metallic band and the plastic battery cover that makes the two surfaces almost look like a different shade of orangish red.

The display hides well in the black glass panel. cheapest meizu I am pleased that the bezel is somewhat thin, and the display isn't swimming in a large black frame. There are three capacitive buttons below the screen for interacting with the Android operating system.

Strike has a small screen on the front in addition to the navigation cluster and numeric keypad

If you haven't heard of Sonim, maker of the XP Strike, don't be worried. It is based in California and specializes in only rugged handsets. The Strike is one of the first to be sold in the U.S. Most of Sonim's devices are sold overseas. There is nothing subtle about the Sonim Strike. It is about as rugged as a device can get. It’s thick, heavy, brutally tough, and clearly not meant for use by sissies.

As far as rugged devices go, I like the overall design of the Strike. I don't think anyone would blink twice were it to be sold alongside DeWalt drills or Rigid sawzalls at Home Depot. It has that "construction site" look that is sure to appeal to its target user: people who work outside where things get dropped, kicked, stepped on, and flung.

The colors are a mix of black and yellow. The yellow makes the Strike easy to see pretty much anywhere. I found it to be nearly reflective when out under the sun (it's not actually reflective, though). The yellow portions are made from an extremely hard plastic. The black parts are hardened rubber and serve as a cushioning agent for the device, protecting it from your butter fingers. The Strike is all angles, lines, and other shapes. It is not smooth or refined.

Samsung Galaxy S III is a bit conservative and simplistic

I have to give Samsung some credit for the colors. Blue may not be for everyone, but I am sick to death of black smartphones. The "pebble blue" is an attractive hue that impresses when outside under sunlight. The white is also nice. I wish the white had more of a matte finish than glossy, but the silver accents around the outer edge look great.

I think the overall shape and design of the GS3 is a bit conservative and simplistic, but I understand the angle Samsung is shooting for with its "inspired by nature" concept. Samsung needs the GS3 to appeal to as many potential customers as possible, so truly odd, unique designs are out. The edges are absolutely smooth; there isn't a hard angle or sharp edge anywhere on the GS3. Samsung says it was inspired by the shape and feel of a river stone. It feels like you're holding silk. Another way to say it: the GS3 is really slippery. It's thin and slippery enough that it will glide into any pocket in which you care to store the device.

LG Optimus G for Sprint

LG brings its heavy artillery to the smartphone wars for the first time with the Optimus G. This flagship Android smartphone boasts a quad-core processor, 13-megapixel camera, and of course LTE 4G for Sprint. Here is Phone Scoop's full review.

The Sprint version of the LG Optimus G is different enough from AT&T version that Phone Scoop decided each device warranted its own review. The Sprint G is slightly taller and narrower than the AT&T G (by just 2mm and 3mm, respectively), but it's noticeable if you hold the two phones side-by-side.

The Sprint version of the G more closely mirrors that of the international variant of the G. This left Sprint with little wiggle room when it came to making the device more its own. It's a black slab with glass on the front and a glass-like material on the back. It's glossy, highly reflective, but could be hard to recognize from more than a couple feet away since so many smartphones are black-on-black slabs.

Samsung Propel also feels more natural in your hand

Propel also feels more natural in your hand for use with both applications and conversations, more like a BlackBerry than the usual cellphone.

Varying control keys, jacks and slots are arrayed around the phone's perimeter; on the left side are the volume toggle and the microSD slot, on the right is Samsung's proprietary power/headphone jack – there is no separate 3.5mm or 2.5mm headphone jack – and an application shortcut key. The volume and shortcut keys stick out just enough to find by feel but not far enough to catch on the inside of a pocket.

Pushing this application shortcut key displays a horizontal row of six icons – phone, messaging, Web, music, game and "end all," which closes any and all background apps, such as music.meizu mx5 phone  There's a direct access camera key on the bottom row of the keyboard.

HTC Droid Incredible is one of the sharpest-looking handsets

It is large, but lightweight. It is soft, yet solid. The battery cover has a soft-touch finish, and it feels really nice in the hand. I like that its edges are all rounded in shape, rather than angular like the Droid's. It slips into a pocket much easier than the Droid, and is far more comfortable to leave there for any amount of time. I find it to be just the right weight. It's not so heavy as to be a brick in your hands, but not so insubstantial as to make you think it was cheaply made.

The Incredible is obsidian and reminds me of the famed monolith from "2001: A Space Odyssey" more than any other phone I've encountered. The grill covering the earpiece speaker at the tippy top of the phone is the only color, a thin strip of red. The display is huge, but not so awkward as the HTC HD2's dinner plate dimensions. There are four capacitive buttons along the bottom of the screen, just as with the Droid Eris and Moto Droid. meizu mx5 Finally, at the bottom, is an optical mouse / button. The optical mouse works well as a button and a mouse. I found it to be responsive, though I used it more when editing text than for any real on-screen navigation.

Sony Ericsson Z750 desperately needs to lose a few millimeters around the waist

The numeric keypad is simply one of the best we've seen from Sony Ericsson. The buttons are large, well spaced, and feel great to use. Travel and feedback is nearly perfect. The "nub" on the five key was nice and easy to find, which helped aide usability when not looking at the keypad. All the way at the bottom of the keypad, below the # key, was a very small power button to turn the phone on and off. A quick press turns it on, a longer press turns the Z750a off. I like that this button is hidden inside the device, meaning the phone won't accidentally be turned on/off when stored in a bag.

The left side of the phone is where you'll find a dedicated music application key and the volume toggle. Unlike the numeric keypad, these are among the worst buttons we've encountered on the side of a phone. The music app button is a half-circle that is embedded into the side of the phone. It offered the bare minimum of feedback and was not easy to find. The volume toggle was easier to find, but offered even less feedback. We're talking the button barely moves, and there's absolutely no "click" to let you know the button has actually been pushed. meizu mx5 price

The hatch for the M2 memory slot is the only thing found on the right side of the phone. It was easy enough to find and open. The battery hatch on the back of the Z750a comes off with the use of a fingernail.

Amazon is finally ready to unleash its first phone, the Fire

Amazon is finally ready to unleash its first phone, the Fire. An exclusive to AT&T, this unique phone sports a spiffy interface totally new to the phone world, and a few fancy hardware and software features. Read on for our hands-on first impressions.

The Fire phone sounds great on paper. It has great hardware specs, an innovative software platform built on Android and the successful Kindle Fire tablets, and some unique hardware and software that seems like magic. But is it something you should buy? We'll have to reserve proper judgement until we have quality time with a review unit. But in the meantime, we have some first impressions from using this fascinating device hands-on.

The face-tracking does require a lot of tilting the phone, which is a great demo of the excellent viewing angles of the display, which is great in every other metric as well. Of course with this phone, a display with poor viewing angles would be a catastrophe, but still, the display has some of the best viewing angles I've ever seen on an LCD panel. (I'm shocked they didn't go with OLED, but however they managed to do it with an LCD, it's gorgeous.)

Samsung Galaxy Mega for AT&T

The Samsung Galaxy Mega is an absurdly large "phone." It takes the idea of the phablet -- or phone/tablet hybrid -- much closer to the tablet end of the spectrum. If you want the biggest screen possible on a device that's still portable, the Mega may be up your alley.

People were aghast when Samsung announced the Galaxy Note in 2011 with its 5.2-inch screen. "Crazy," "Huge," "Ridiculous," some called it. The Galaxy Mega, as the name implies, dwarfs the Note with its mega proportions. It has a 6.3-inch screen and a massive 6.6 x 3.46-inch footprint. It's not that much smaller than some tablets.

The family resemblance between the Note and the Mega is clear. Held side-by-side, they are almost indistinguishable, aside from the difference in size. The Mega has the same chrome-colored rim and speaker grill, the same coloring, and nearly identical button shape and placement as the Note. It's a decent-looking device, though it of course uses the same cheap-feeling plastics common to Samsung smartphones. It comes across as classy and elegant sort of in the way Shaquille O'Neal does when wearing a suit rather than his basketball uniform.

Ascend Mate 2 from Huawei represents an interesting choice

The Ascend Mate 2 is a big, big phone. It's about the same size as the Samsung Galaxy Mega, which is probably also its closest competition in terms of specs and price. With a six-inch screen, the Mate 2 borders on tablet-esque dimensions. It is large, heavy, and often requires two hands.

Visually, the Mate 2 is a fairly non-descript phone; a black slab with little personality. The front and back surfaces are solid black. Only a band around the edge, which is dark chrome, breaks up what would otherwise be a solid chunk of inky blackness. The Mate 2 is bereft of design flourishes and is conservative almost to a fault. Since it has almost no individuality, it will fit in just about anywhere. Only individuals stand out, and the Mate 2 is part of the crowd.

The materials are acceptable, but certainly not high quality. The glass on the front feels good under the thumb, as do the slippery side edges. I'm not the biggest fan of the rear cover, which has a microscopic pattern to it. Your skin can't really feel it, but if you slide a fingernail across it you'll feel the texture. It has a dull look to it thanks to the matte finish.

Meizu MX3 is very simplistic as far as the design goes

Meizu is relatively unknown to those of us in North America. It's a Chinese phone maker that hopes to make it big in the U.S. market in the coming years. Its first foray into the U.S. water will be with the MX3, an Android smartphone that's been available in China since last year, but is being shown off at CES for the first time. Here are our initial impressions.

The MX3 is very simplistic as far as the design goes. It has a plain plastic shell forming the back and a glass front forming the display. There are hardly any design elements, it is a slab with few frills. The white plastic back meets the black front in a clean, straight seam. The MX3 is thin and light - almost too light. It feels as though there's hardly anything inside the phone. The plastic is a bit more cheap feeling than I'd like it to be, but Meizu assured me the phone is far from its final, manufactured form. The construction is certainly tight.

The slim form is quite easy to hold. The edges are tapered nicely and the MX3 will slip into most any pocket. The are no physical buttons on the front, the glass is clean and free of buttons. There are capacitive controls below the display. The volume toggle is along the left edge of the device. It stands out nicely and had excellent travel and feedback. The screen lock button has a similar feel, and is positioned along the top of the phone. The stereo headphone jack is next to it. There are no buttons along the right, and the microUSB port is on the bottom.

LG Lucid 3 for Verizon Wireless

The Lucid 3 from LG is a mid-range smartphone that offers some of the features found on flagship devices but skips some of the more fanciful extras. With downgraded specs, it also enjoys a lower price point. For those who want a simpler device that lacks thrills - but lets you keep up with your bill - the Lucid 3 is worth a gander.

Like the Lucid 2 before it, the Lucid 3 doesn't aspire to be much. It's a low-cost Android smartphone that packs the basic toolset included with most such devices. LG tossed in a few of its proprietary apps for good measure.

The Lucid 3 isn't a bad looking phone. LG kept the design rather simple so it won't be confused with its high-end phones, such as the G2. The front is black, but the plastic covering the back has a midnight blue hue, and the outer edge is defined by a gray band. The camera lens is rimmed in chrome, and the Home button on the front stands out thanks to its design. I'd say the Lucid 3 is a second-hand suit compared to the G2's fresh tuxedo. It keeps things classy, but in a casual sort of way.

The original Android mobile phone Google Nexus 6

The Nexus 6 is a larger version of the Moto X, but with the Droid Turbo's guts. It's a powerful and appealing combination. The N6 has a glass front, aluminum frame around the sides, and polycarbonate on the back. It doesn't have the Moto X's customizable rear panels, but it does have the same shape, contours, and structure. The phone comes in either white or indigo blue. I think both are rather attractive.

Thanks to its 6-inch screen, the N6 is a massive device. It's taller, wider, and thicker than the iPhone 6 Plus, but let me tell you, it fits in your pocket much more comfortably. The N6 may measure 0.4 inches at its thickest point, but the device is tapered aggressively. It’s much thinner along the edges than the iPhone 6 Plus, which maintains the same thickness across the entire footprint of the phone. I was much more apt to notice the IPhone 6 Plus in my pocket than the Nexus 6, despite latter's larger size and weight. The N6's shape also makes it more comfortable to hold and use. Well, at least as comfortable as a phone that measures 6.27 inches tall and 3.27 inches wide can be.

Meizu MX4 smartphone experience

Handling the phone is a joy. The screen size is really good comparing to body ratio, the curves the the alloy chassis give it a really expensive feel.
The internals are more than adequate, actually the device acts and reacts as the flag ship it is no lags with my time of usage .
Flyme OS is the sin child of ios and Android, you must use it to know how far Chinese manufactures/developers came. From gestures to unlock the screen to easy to use menus, sometimes simple is better.
Screen very vibrant though not as good as AMOLEDs you find in samsungs and Motos but its still a joy to look at .
Sound from the internal speaker is really loud, it also sounds good bt not as good as htc boom sound. I would say its better than samsungs and iphones but not as good as HTC. While headphones sound, could easily replace your ipod with loudness and quality

Battery runs a day with have usage no problems and even has different modes, depending on how demanding you are.
